Numerous people think about whether they can dye the lace on wigs. More often than not, we stock lace wigs that have light brown lace because generally it can work with most peoples skin tones or be modified easily. 

It can be pretty disappointing to purchase a lace wig and discover the lace color doesn't match your skin tone, but fear not there are defiantly ways to tint/camouflage the lace to match your skin tone. The french or swiss lace used to as the foundation of lace wigs is basically fabric, so a great way to tint the lace is by lace using a fabric dye, such as Rit fabric dye, found at your local general store like Walmart or Walgreens.

Choosing the best color to match your skin-tone is going to play a big part for the most natural results. Fortunately RIT dye has a nice range of colors for you to choose from to get your ideal shade. Don't be afraid to get creative and mix and match colors if you need to.

How To Dye Your Lace

3. Gently place your lace wig in the dye mixture careful not to submerge the hair beyond than the roots. Dip the lace for roughly ten (10) second increments. You want to complete this process very gradually to ensure that you don’t color the lace too dark. 

Tip: For a more precise application, try using a cotton ball dipped in the dye mixture or a q-tip. 

If this is your first-time, test a small piece of the excess lace against your forehead beforehand. Ten (10) second increments is best to carefully monitor how fast the color is absorbing into the lace. Remember, when it comes to lace color you can always go darker, but you cannot go lighter. 

4. Finally, gently wash your lace wig thoroughly with cool water to allow the color to set properly. Use a non-sulfate shampoo and conditioner. The remaining dye that has not adhered to the lace will be rinsed out from the hair. After washing and conditioning simply let the hair air dry.
